KARADJA ELECTED MEMBER OF PANEL OF EMINENT PERSONS OF APRM, A PRIDE FOR ALGERIA

APS – January 28th, 2017.

ADDIS ABABA (Ethiopia)- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel said, in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), that the election of Fatima Zahra Karadja as a member of the Panel of Eminent Persons of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is “a pride for the country and for the Algerian woman.”

In a statement to the press on the side-lines of the 26th Forum of the Heads of State and Government of the APRM, to which Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal is taking part as a representative of the president of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Messahel said that Algeria presented, “on the recommendation of the Head of State, the candidacy of Fatima Zohra Karadja for the elections for the renewal of the panel’s components.”
“Karadja’s candidacy was accepted. It is a pride for Algeria and for the Algerian woman,” he said.
Messahel also recalled Chafika Bensaoula’s election as a judge at the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

“These are two significant events that pay tribute to the Algerian woman, and which also clearly highlight the interest that the President of the Republic has always given to the promotion of the Algerian woman and above all, that she is represented at high international bodies.”
Concerning the works of this forum, Messahel said that this meeting will be an opportunity for four African countries to present their reports, which will be examined by the African Heads of State. Messahel added that Namibia became the 36th member state to join the APRM.
