Ghardaia’s Amidoul Foundation honoured in COP-22 for ecological habitat project

APS – 16 November 2016

MARRAKECH (Morocco) - The Amidoul Foundation for the Promotion of Ecological Habitat in Ghardaïa has been honoured in Marrakech, on the side-lines of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on Climate Change (COP-22).

The Foundation ranked first in the "Desert Sustainable City" category, as it was competing with several cities and projects around the world, said the COP-22 organizers.
The award was granted following an online vote in the category "The price of green buildings and ecological habitat," sponsored by the International Association "Construction 21."
Chaired by Ahmed Nouh, this Foundation was honoured for its project of construction of 1,000 dwellings combining ancestral, traditional and modern styles but with little consumption of energy.
Those dwellings which were built of local materials, namely lime, stone and concrete are tailored to a well-ventilated system with narrow streets and less energy-consuming.
A green belt, made up of trees, was included in the project. Trees and other plants are irrigated with purified wastewater.
Each country having benefited from a house as part of this project should respect an environmental charter, notably to plant trees and create eco-museum for kids’ education.
The dwellings were funded by the State’s Fund for Housing, the Foundation and the beneficiaries.
